A View of the Artist’s House and Garden, in Mills Plains, Van Diemen’s Land, 1838 is an Australian Landscape painting by John Glover. Glover was an English-born Australian artist often referred to as the originator of Australian landscape painting. Here the scene is of his idyllic home in modern-day Tasmania during colonial rule.
The exotic flowers and plants of the garden are painted in detail, and are brilliantly lit by the sun in the blue sky. The diagonal line that leads to the door marks an invitation and hospitality.
John Glover’s A View of the Artist’s House and Garden, in Mills Plains, Van Diemen’s Land, 1838 is in the Art Gallery of South Australia in Adelaide.
